Marriott International Expands to West Kalimantan with the Opening of Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak

Pontianak, Indonesia — Marriott International has officially opened Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak, marking both the debut of the Four Points brand in the city and the company’s first property in West Kalimantan. The launch strengthens Marriott’s growing footprint in Indonesia, where it now operates 84 properties, with Four Points by Sheraton being its most represented brand in the country.

Strategically situated along Jalan Arteri Supadio, the new hotel is just 12 kilometers from Supadio International Airport, offering convenient access to Pontianak’s business districts, lifestyle hubs, and cultural landmarks. With its modern design, local touches, and familiar comforts, Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak is positioned to serve both business and leisure travelers seeking a balanced and relaxing stay.

“We’re excited to debut Marriott International’s first property in West Kalimantan,” said Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President for Indonesia & Malaysia at Marriott International. “Pontianak’s unique location along the equator and the Kapuas River makes it an extraordinary destination. This opening underscores our commitment to expanding into emerging cities across Indonesia while maintaining our promise of warm hospitality and authentic experiences.”

Comfortable Stays with Smart Amenities

The hotel offers 196 guest rooms and suites, including Family Suites and a Presidential Suite, each designed to provide a sense of ease and modern comfort. Rooms feature plush bedding, 55-inch smart TVs, fast Wi-Fi, and functional workspaces. The Presidential Suite includes a separate living area with a 10-seater dining table, making it suitable for small gatherings, while the bathroom offers a soaking tub and wide city views.

Guests can also enjoy various leisure amenities such as a 24-hour fitness center, an outdoor pool overlooking the skyline, and a spa offering rejuvenating treatments. Families traveling with children will find convenience in the hotel’s kids’ pool and kids club, providing enjoyable spaces for younger guests.

Dining with Local and Global Flavors

Dining options at the hotel celebrate both international and local cuisine. Lumina, the all-day dining restaurant, serves global favorites alongside authentic Indonesian dishes. For those seeking a more casual setting, the Sunken Bar by the pool offers light bites and refreshing drinks in an open-air environment. At the lobby, Ārana provides a cozy atmosphere ideal for social gatherings or quick meetings, featuring the brand’s signature Best Brews™ program that highlights local craft beers.

Round-the-clock in-room dining is also available, ensuring guests can enjoy freshly prepared meals any time of the day or night.

A New Venue for Meetings and Events

Designed to host both business and social functions, Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak includes eight meeting rooms and a Grand Ballroom set to open in 2026. The ballroom will feature a 1,507-square-meter pillarless space with advanced audiovisual systems and private VIP lounges, suitable for conferences, weddings, and large gatherings. A dedicated events team ensures every occasion is handled smoothly, from planning to execution.

Discovering Pontianak: The Equator City

Pontianak, located along the banks of the Kapuas River—the longest river in Indonesia—is known for its unique position on the equator. Visitors can experience this firsthand at the Equator Monument, one of the few places in the world where people can stand precisely at zero degrees latitude. The city also hosts the Sun Culmination Festival twice a year, when the sun passes directly overhead and casts no shadow.

Beyond its geographical distinction, Pontianak offers a rich blend of Malay, Dayak, and Chinese cultural influences, reflected in its architecture, arts, and cuisine. Historical landmarks such as the Kadriah Palace, the former residence of the Pontianak Sultanate, give insight into the region’s royal heritage. Meanwhile, the city’s bustling riverfront showcases a mix of traditional markets, modern retail centers, and food stalls that highlight Pontianak’s culinary diversity—from seafood specialties to local favorites inspired by its multicultural roots.

Genuine Hospitality and Local Connection

“At Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak, we aim to bring together the comfort of our brand with the spirit of this riverside city,” said Richardo Tutuko, Multi-Property General Manager of Four Points by Sheraton Pontianak and Element by Westin Bali Ubud. “Whether guests are here for business, leisure, or exploration, we want them to experience Pontianak’s culture and hospitality through every detail of their stay.”

The property embodies the brand’s approach to “honest, uncomplicated comfort”, offering travelers a space that feels familiar yet distinctly local.
