Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday called on authorities to conduct a swift investigation into the shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
At the same time, Romualdez expressed sadness over the incident and offered assistance to the affected families.
“I have directed my office to coordinate with local authorities and relevant government agencies to determine what assistance can immediately be provided to the affected families,” Romualdez said in a statement.
“At the same time, I call on law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation so that all those responsible are held fully accountable under the law,” he added.
He said he was “deeply saddened and heartbroken” by the shooting, which claimed the lives of three people and injured five others.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, the injured students, their classmates, teachers, and the entire school community as they face this unimaginable tragedy,” he said.
Romualdez also called for reflection on what more could be done to ensure the safety of schools in the wake of the shooting.
“As we mourn, we must also reflect on what more can be done to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. We owe it to our children, our teachers, and every Filipino family to make our schools places where young people can learn without fear,” he said.
“In this difficult time, let us unite as one community in prayer, compassion, and support for those affected,” he added.
According to reports, the shooting occurred at around 9 a.m. on Monday inside the school premises in Barangay San Jose.
