As Mapúa University officially crosses the threshold into its next century of academic excellence this year, the Philippines’ premier engineering and technological powerhouse is launching a bold new epoch. Through a powerhouse combination of global alliances, AI-integrated pedagogy, and soon, the birth of a sustainability-focused college, Mapúa is redefining the landscape of higher education for the next 100 years.
Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, President and CEO of Mapúa University and the Mapúa Education Group (MEG), emphasizes that these pioneering steps are not just enhancements—they are a complete charting of a new course for the Filipino learner.
“We are not merely reflecting on a hundred years of success; we are building the future,” says Dr. Maestrecampo. “Through these strategic masterplans and global partnerships, Mapúa is ensuring that the Filipino professional is not just a participant in the global economy, but a leader of it.”
Among the bold and pioneering steps of the University were the strategic partnerships with gaming giant Capcom Singapore, leading research and product deployment company OpenAI, the comprehensive academic collaboration with United States’ #1 school for innovation–Arizona State University (ASU), and the ongoing creation of the Mapúa Green College.
The multi-party alliance with international game publisher Capcom Singapore, global workforce and education solutions provider Prime Manpower, and MEG will develop a games, intellectual property, and digital culture program. The program is designed to hone the capabilities of local creators, engineers, and business professionals for the global gaming industry while promoting the study of intellectual property.
Meanwhile, the partnership with OpenAI makes MEG the first Philippine academic network to introduce an enterprise-grade artificial intelligence (AI) educational suite for students, faculty and non-academic personnel. OpenAI is the same tech company that launched ChatGPT.
Maestrecampo explained that equipping learners and educators on AI will enable its application in an academic and professional setting. “Proficiency and global readiness are priorities for Mapúa,” he added.
Likewise, beginning school year 2026-2027, learners across all segments and programs will experience enhanced courses powered by the Arizona State University’s (ASU) repository of academic programs, access to its suite of micro-credentials, and more opportunities and pathways to ASU and its network of universities across the globe. This international integration will propel MEG to elevate local academic standards, and build up Filipino professionals who can compete and lead at the world stage.
On top of this, the ASU partnership paves the way for the soon-to-be-established Mapúa Green College, a pioneering academic initiative creating the next generation of “green” careers. It would be a dynamic hub for climate resilience, sustainable development, and renewable energy.
