28th French Film Festival Returns to Manila, Showcasing Co-Productions, Feminist Voices, and the Magic of Animation at SM Aura and SM City Manila from November 24 to 30

The Embassy of France in the Philippines and Micronesia, in partnership with SM Supermalls and SM Cinema, proudly present the 28th edition of the French Film Festival — Manila’s premier celebration of French and global cinema. From November 24 to 30, SM Aura and SM City Manila Cinemas will screen a vibrant lineup of innovative French films, promising fresh perspectives and cinematic artistry.

For nearly 30 years, the French Film Festival has been a beloved cultural bridge, inviting Filipino audiences to dive into the rich tapestry of French storytelling — bold, intimate, and thought-provoking. This year, the festival embraces new horizons by spotlighting French-Filipino co-productions, feminist cinema, and the dynamic realm of animation.

Celebrating Feminist Cinema and Female Storytellers

Aligned with France’s ongoing feminist diplomacy and initiatives championed by French Ambassador Marie Fontanel, this year’s festival puts women and their stories front and center. The program features groundbreaking female directors and films that explore themes of identity, resilience, and equality.

Adding star power, a rising French actress known worldwide for her compelling performances and recent work alongside major Hollywood figures will join the festival as a special guest. She will participate in post-screening discussions of three feminist-themed films, delving into narratives of courage, independence, and the fight for representation across sports, society, and culture.

The 28th French Film Festival happens on November 24 to 30 at SM Aura and SM City Manila. At the press announcement (from left): Ms. Mathilde Séjourné, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs, Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia; and  Mr. Joaquin San Augustin, Vice President for Marketing, SM Supermalls.

Animation: A World of Wonder

Expanding its creative scope, the festival highlights the art of animation in collaboration with the Animation Council of the Philippines. ANIMAHENASYON (November 25–26) at Samsung Hall, SM Aura, will feature film screenings, industry talks, and an awards night celebrating animated storytelling’s vibrancy and emotional depth.

Audience favorites include Amélie et la Métaphysique des Tubes, La Plus Précieuse des Marchandises, and Maya Donne-moi un titre — each showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and imaginative power of French animation.

A Diverse and Exciting Film Lineup

This year’s selection offers a mix of new releases, timeless classics, animated gems, and cross-cultural collaborations, including:

  • Partir un jour by Amélie Bonnin (2025)
  • 13 jours 13 nuits by Martin Bourboulon (2025)
  • La Petite Dernière by Hafsia Herzi (2025)
  • Coutures by Alice Winocour (2026)
  • Elsewhere at Night by Marianne Métivier (2025)
  • Dracula by Luc Besson (2025)
  • La Plus Précieuse des Marchandises by Michel Hazanavicius (2024)
  • Le Roi et l’Oiseau by Paul Grimault (1980)
  • Le Pharaon by Michel Ocelot (2022)
  • Call My Agent (Erik Matti) alongside its French original Dix pour cent (Cédric Klapisch)

More titles will feature emerging talents, heritage stories, and diverse global viewpoints.

Milestone in French-Filipino Film Collaboration

A standout moment this year is the historic Co-Production Agreement between France and the Philippines, signed on May 14 at the Cannes Film Festival. This groundbreaking partnership opens new doors for filmmakers on both sides, fostering collaboration, expanding distribution, and deepening cultural ties.

To celebrate, a two-day Co-Production Conference will be held on November 27–28 at SM Samsung Hall, SMX Aura, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and France’s National Center for Cinema and Animation (CNC). French and Filipino film professionals will gather to forge new creative ventures and share insights.

As part of this collaboration, the festival will screen the Filipino adaptation Call My Agent back-to-back with the beloved French original Dix pour cent.

Extending the Festival Experience

Screenings will continue at the Alliance Française de Manille from December 1 to 6, with additional programs hosted at UPFI (November 25–26) and Benilde School of Design and Arts (November 28).

A Festival That Inspires

Now in its 28th year, the French Film Festival remains a highlight of Manila’s cultural scene, connecting filmmakers, cinephiles, students, and storytellers. More than just screenings, it is a vibrant forum for exchange, creativity, and artistic discovery.

This November, audiences are invited to explore the richness of French cinema, the power of women’s narratives, the promise of French-Filipino partnerships, and the magic of animation.

Admission to all screenings at SM Aura and SM City Manila is free. For schedules and updates, visit the French Embassy’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FrenchEmbassyPH.

A Night of Love and Legacy: RMA Studio Academy Stages “That’s Amore! A Night at the Movies”

RMA Studio Academy brought a powerful showcase of artistry to the Aliw Theater on November 9, 2025, presenting That’s Amore! A Night at the Movies with a full live orchestra. Despite unfavorable weather, the concert pushed through with undeniable energy, celebrating love in its many forms—through music, performance, and service.

A Vision Five Years in the Making

Conceived by RMA founder and Asia’s Jewel, Ms. Jade Riccio, That’s Amore! was the culmination of five years of passion, faith, and growth. What began as a dream finally met its moment, unfolding into an evening filled with cinematic music and heartfelt performances.

Featuring the talented students of RMA Studio Academy, the concert delivered harmonious melodies and standout moments worthy of a grand stage. Their performances—met with warm applause and several standing ovations—affirmed the academy’s dedication to shaping confident, world-class talents.

From Aspiring Artists to Confident Performers

RMA Studio Academy guided its students from dreamers to polished performers through dedicated training, mentorship, and encouragement. This concert became a defining milestone for many of them, as family and friends watched them shine and overcome the pressures of the stage.

Beyond vocal performances, students also showcased their instrumental skills in guitar, piano, drums, and strings. A highlight of the evening was their collaboration with the Philippine Events Orchestra, adding depth and grandeur to the night.

Stellar Performances from RMA’s Celebrity Students

The event also featured impressive numbers from RMA’s celebrity students.

  • Rhian Ramos energized the stage with “One Way or Another” from Mean Girls.
  • Michelle Dee showcased her musicality with her rendition of “Dilaw.”
  • Scarlet Belo, Tali Sotto, and Zia Dantes delivered charming performances, with Tali singing “The Climb” and Zia performing “Scars to Your Beautiful.”
  • Ina Raymundo delivered a standout solo, while Jema Galanza and Chloe San Jose performed a spirited “Proud Mary.”
  • Rain Celmar impressed with her powerful take on Whitney Houston’s “Run to You.”

The evening reached a heartfelt peak when musical icons Jose Mari Chan and Jade Riccio shared the stage with a remarkable performance.

A Concert with a Cause

The event also served as a benefit concert for the Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP). “We were not only giving RMA students the opportunity to shine; we also wanted to extend the stage to the autism community,” shared Ms. Riccio.

Selected ASP members performed “True Colors,” moving the audience with their sincerity and talent. The partnership between RMA and ASP reflects the academy’s mission to make music a transformative force, inspiring students to use their talents to make a meaningful impact.

The evening concluded with a vibrant group performance of “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025), bringing the entire cast together for a celebratory finale.

Holiday Flavors and Familiar Comfort at Pancake House

In the Philippines, the holiday season doesn’t just arrive — it lingers. It stretches across months of reunions and rituals, of streets glowing with light and kitchens filled with the scent of old recipes. Time slows; conversations deepen, and food — as always — becomes the language of connection.

For Pancake House, that connection has always been its quiet promise. Since its earliest days, the familiar orange diner has been a place where comfort is shared generously, and every table tells a story. This season, that story continues with flavors that celebrate what the holidays are truly about: tradition, togetherness, and the warmth of memory.

Holiday Pancakes: A Season Served in Stacks
Few flavors capture the Filipino holiday spirit quite like bibingka and puto bumbong — edible heirlooms passed down through generations, reinterpreted yet forever beloved.

Every year, Pancake House carries this legacy forward with its signature Bibingka Pancakes — mini stacks topped with queso de bola, salted egg, and butter, served with muscovado sugar and freshly grated coconut. It’s a dish that turns nostalgia into something tangible — soft, buttery, and familiar. Joining the celebration is a new take on another classic: Puto Bumbong Pancakes. Layered with creamy ube filling and finished with queso de bola, muscovado, and coconut, it captures the season’s playful spirit — the joy of discovery within something deeply known.

Available for ₱199 each, these limited-edition stacks show how comfort can evolve without losing its roots — how tradition can be both honored and reimagined.

Savour these limited-time Holiday Pancakes until January 6, 2026, with options for dine-in, takeout, curbside® pickup, and delivery.

Comfort, Celebration, and Coming Home
The holidays are more than festivities — they live in the clatter of shared plates, the laughter after a meal, the small rituals that bring us together again. At Pancake House, that spirit endures in every stack, every story, and every table that gathers people closer, one plate at a time.

Pico de Loro Lights Up the Holidays with Eco-Friendly Festivities

Pico de Loro warmly welcomed the holiday season with a heartfelt Christmas tree lighting ceremony attended by key figures including Chairwoman Elizabeth T. Sy, President Rita Dy, SM Leisure & Resort Residences Business Unit Head Shirley Ong, Head of Design and Planning Harvey Sy, General Manager Maxi Gavino, and SM Hotels & Conventions Corp. executives Peggy Angeles and Cathy Nepomuceno, alongside media friends, members, and guests.

GM Maxi Gavino shared the event’s inspiring theme, #FeelTheHolidaySparkle, saying, “Our inspiration comes from the mangroves — nature’s quiet protectors — which bring life and light to their surroundings. When mangroves thrive, they become home to fireflies — tiny sparks that illuminate the night, reminding us that even the smallest lights can create something truly wondrous together.”

True to Pico de Loro’s dedication to marine conservation and sustainability, the Christmas trees around the cove were decorated with eco-friendly ornaments, showcasing the property’s environmental efforts.

The creative and eco-conscious CRAFTmas team transformed Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club and Pico Sands Hotel into a festive holiday setting. Led by Housekeeping Manager Renante Navarro and Housekeeping Supervisor for Sustainability and Decorations Florencio Garcia, supported by a dedicated team of attendants, the team spent months preparing unique decorations made from upcycled and locally sourced materials like wood scraps, foxtail palm twigs, Talisay fruit, acacia seeds, mangrove branches, mud crabs, and driftwood centerpieces. The result? Holiday décor that beautifully blends artistry and sustainability.

Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club President Rita Dy encouraged members and guests to join the Eco-Mangrove Tour to connect more deeply with this year’s theme and highlighted the Club’s exciting calendar of events. She also invited everyone to the Jungle Jive New Year’s Eve Countdown Party on December 31.

She also shared upcoming enhancements, including the refreshed Lagoa opening on December 12, Grab & Go’s soon-to-launch We Proudly Serve Starbucks coffee, and the reimagined Club Pico for younger guests — all part of their commitment to warm, meaningful hospitality.

Guests enjoyed live performances by soprano duo The Nightingales and fun appearances by mascots Picoy the Parrot and Tiny the Turtle. The evening also featured a special preview of the Lagoa Restaurant’s menu, curated by Chef Leah Magallanes, Chef Jayme Natividad, and the culinary team.

The Christmas tree at Pico de Loro Cove now stands as a bright symbol of festive cheer and the dedication of everyone who made the celebration possible.
