Taal Vista Hotel Named UN Peace Center and Global Citizens Hub

Taal Vista Hotel, one of the Philippines’ most storied landmarks in Tagaytay, has been formally recognized as a United Nations (UN) Peace Center and Global Citizens Hub. The conferment marks a milestone in the hotel’s long-standing legacy as a symbol of culture, sustainability, and community-driven peace efforts.

The distinction, presented on October 21 during the UN’s 80th Anniversary celebration, was led by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) and the United Network of Global Citizens (UNGC), in partnership with SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC). The event carried the theme “Building the Future Together.”

In her welcome remarks, SMHCC Senior Vice President Cathy Nepomuceno expressed gratitude for the recognition. “As a company rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and nation-building, SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation stands in solidarity with the vision and values of the United Nations. We take great pride in Taal Vista Hotel’s legacy, which now serves as a hub for meaningful dialogue, education, and collaboration,” she said.

Ms. Cathy Nepomuceno, SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) Senior Vice President for Operations, delivered the welcome remarks for the event

UNGC Founder and President Jenny Pearl Ninalga emphasized the deeper meaning of the conferment. “By anchoring a Peace Center in a Filipino heritage landmark like Taal Vista, we declare that peace begins where history, culture, and community meet. The UN’s sustainable goals are not just policies—they are a living promise to humanity,” she said.

The ceremony included a formal turnover and flag-raising led by Roderick “Ric” Cruz, Global President of UNAP. In his message, he reminded attendees that the UN flag represents collective commitment to peace. “A UN Flag hoisted on our soil reminds us that no matter which country we come from, we are united under one flag—the flag of the United Nations,” he said.

He added, “When we name a hall or space as a Peace Center, we do not just assign a title—we give it meaning and mission.”

Accepting the recognition, Brenda Cabuyao, Director of Operations of Taal Vista Hotel, shared how the property envisions its new role. “We want Taal Vista Hotel to be a place where meaningful conversations are sparked, where culture and community find harmony, and where every guest is reminded that peace is not just an aspiration—it is an action, lived and shared,” she said.

“As we accept this conferment, we are inspired to continue creating spaces that uplift, connect, and empower. Each of us holds a part in shaping a more compassionate and collaborative world,” she added.

SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) Executives with UNA-Phils, UNGC, Taal Vista Hotel, and delegates

Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Marites Castro of Region IV-A (Calabarzon) lauded the initiative, recognizing its alignment with the DOT’s mission to promote cultural exchange and inclusivity. “These ideals resonate deeply with our mission—to build bridges among peoples, celebrate diversity, and nurture a culture of respect,” she said.

The ceremony featured a UN Flag Raising, the Peace Pledge, and a symbolic unity gathering that brought together representatives from UNAP, UNGC, SMHCC, and various partners.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the UNA Presidential Medal and World Changers Award to SMHCC President Elizabeth T. Sy, in recognition of her leadership in heritage preservation, sustainable tourism, and community empowerment.

In attendance were SMHCC executives including Agnes Pacis, Vice President for Commercial; Leah Magallanes, Vice President for Quality and Sustainability; Nian Rigor, Assistant Vice President for Public Relations; and Mary Rose Lomibao, Director of Sales and Marketing for Taal Vista Hotel.

Also gracing the event were diplomats, educators, and peace advocates, including Shah Md. Ashraful Alam Mohon, First Secretary of the Embassy of Bangladesh; Dr. Ethel Agnes Valenzuela, UNESCO representative; and Dr. Margarita Ballesteros, Carlos P. Romulo Awardee.

The celebration concluded with fellowship cocktails, live music, and shared reflections on peace—underscoring Taal Vista Hotel’s new role as a gathering place for dialogue, understanding, and hope.

SMDC Introduces “Nature”: A New Chapter in Sustainable and Balanced Living

Manila, Philippines — SM Development Corporation (SMDC) unveiled SMDC Nature, its newest residential brand designed to redefine modern living through balance, wellness, and sustainability. The launch, held at Conrad Manila, gathered SMDC executives, partners, and future homeowners to celebrate this milestone in community development.

At its core, SMDC Nature embodies a simple yet powerful vision — to bring people closer to nature, closer to home, and closer to what matters most.

“SMDC Nature is about building homes that make everyday life lighter, healthier, and more connected,” said Jessica Bianca Sy, Vice President and Head of Design, Innovation, and Strategy at SMDC. “Our goal is simple: to help Filipinos live well — closer to work, closer to family, and closer to what matters most.”

Following the successful launches of SMDC Heights and Symphony Homes, SMDC Nature continues the company’s mission of developing communities thoughtfully crafted for every Filipino lifestyle.

A Home Connected to Everything

Each SMDC Nature community is built around the concept of the 15-minute home — where essential destinations such as schools, markets, transportation, and green spaces are always within reach. This design philosophy enables residents to spend less time in traffic and more time with family, encouraging a more balanced way of living.

“Accessibility is part of livability,” Sy noted. “It’s about being near what you need so life becomes easier and more enjoyable.”

Designing for Wellness

SMDC Nature developments are shaped with wellness and balance in mind. Wide, tree-lined walkways, open spaces that invite movement, and parks that foster community interaction are central to every project’s layout.

“Nature isn’t something we add after,” Sy explained. “It’s built into how we plan our spaces — from the way air flows through buildings to how people move, rest, and connect.”

Calm Central Garden (Artist’s Perspective)

Sustainability as a Foundation

Beyond aesthetics, SMDC Nature integrates sustainability into every aspect of its design. Solar systems and motion-sensor lighting in common areas can cut power consumption by up to 35%, preventing over 250 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per project annually — comparable to planting more than 10,000 trees.

Water-saving systems, including rainwater harvesting and dual-flush fixtures, make eco-friendly living effortless, while detention tanks in select communities help mitigate flooding.

During the launch, SMDC also announced a landmark partnership with Buskowitz Energy Inc., represented by its President James Carlos P. Buskowitz. Through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the collaboration will enable solar energy installations across multiple SMDC projects — a key initiative toward SM Prime’s Net Zero by 2040 goal.

“By integrating solar power, we are not only building homes that are lighter on resources, but we are also ensuring that the communities we create will remain resilient and future-ready,” Sy said.

Where Life Grows With You

Carrying the tagline “Where Life Grows With You,” SMDC Nature symbolizes SMDC’s ongoing commitment to nurture communities that evolve with their residents. Each development offers a sanctuary where comfort, convenience, and care coexist harmoniously.

“SMDC Nature is our promise to create homes that truly nurture,” Sy shared. “Homes that help people live well today and remain valuable for generations to come.”

PHirst Park Homes to Build Over 13,000 New Units Worth PHP 8.39B

Century Properties Group’s PHirst Park Homes Inc. (PPHI) is expanding its efforts to help address the country’s housing backlog with the construction of 13,150 new homes across nine project sites nationwide. The developments, valued at PHP 8.39 billion, are set to begin before the end of 2025 and form part of the company’s goal to provide more affordable yet high-quality homes for Filipino first-time buyers.

To ensure efficiency and timely completion, the contracts were awarded to PPHI’s in-house construction arm, PHirst Build, and long-time partner Megawide Construction Corp. (MCC). The projects will cover PPHI’s Economic, Affordable, and Mid-Income home models.

PHirst Build will handle 6,326 units across various Luzon locations, including the newly launched PHirst Park Homes Sto. Tomas and PHirst Park Homes Magalang East. Megawide, meanwhile, will deliver 5,824 precast housing units across five projects in key growth areas such as Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas. Another 1,000 units are in the contract awarding stage and are expected to complete this year’s project pipeline.

Since its establishment in 2017, PPHI has awarded 29,306 units to contractors. The additional 13,150 homes will expand its total portfolio to 42,456 units nationwide.

Commitment to Accessible and Quality Housing

PPHI’s steady growth highlights its strong performance in the housing sector. By the first half of 2025, more than 15,000 units have been completed, with the number projected to reach 18,000 by year-end. Of these, over 10,000 have already been turned over to buyers, a figure expected to grow to 14,000 by the end of 2025.

“Our initiatives, through innovative construction methods and strategic partnerships, represent our mission to provide affordable housing solutions that make quality homes more accessible to Filipino families,” said Engr. Roy C. Lachica, Vice President for Technical Operations Division of PPHI. “These efforts also allow us to expand into more locations and respond to the growing housing demand nationwide.”

Leveraging Partnerships and Technology

PPHI’s ongoing expansion is supported by its partnerships with Megawide and PHirst Build, which combine innovation, efficiency, and quality in residential construction. The collaboration uses advanced Precast and Cast-In-Place (CIP) building systems to ensure faster, more sustainable, and cost-efficient homebuilding while maintaining consistent quality across all developments.

PHirst Build, established in 2022, continues to play a key role in PPHI’s growth. The in-house team has built over 12,000 units across the country, accounting for 31% of PHirst’s total housing portfolio. Its growing capabilities underscore the value of having a dedicated construction arm that can adapt to demand while maintaining control over project timelines and standards.

This integrated approach—combining strong partnerships, in-house expertise, and efficient technologies—positions PPHI to sustain its expansion while addressing the housing needs of Filipino families.

About PHirst Park Homes Inc.

PHirst Park Homes Inc. is dedicated to developing affordable yet quality homes tailored to the modern Filipino family. Through innovative construction and strategic collaborations, the company aims to make homeownership attainable for more Filipinos while supporting community development.

Purpose-driven donation underscores the company’s commitment to corporate citizenship and community impact

In a resplendent evening that blended art, fashion, and philanthropy, NUSTAR Online took center stage at the 2025 Red Charity Gala Ball, reaffirming its commitment to purposeful giving and corporate citizenship. The Company’s generous ₱2.25 million donation to the gala’s Art for a Cause initiative, through winning auction bids of ₱750,000 for a Dominic Rubio artwork and ₱1.5 million for a Jigger Cruz piece amplified the event’s mission of transforming creativity into meaningful community support.

“At NUSTAR Online, we believe that success carries a social responsibility,” said Krizia Cortez, Director of Public Relations, NUSTAR Online. “Supporting the Red Charity Gala Ball’s Art for a Cause initiative allows us to contribute to something larger than ourselves, empowering communities, uplifting lives, and demonstrating that giving back can be as transformative as it is inspiring.” Held annually, the Red Charity Gala Ball has long been a highlight of Manila’s social calendar, uniting the country’s top designers, philanthropists, and corporations to raise funds for health, education, and humanitarian programs. More than a runway showcase, it has become a cultural movement that celebrates the Filipino spirit of compassion. This year, NUSTAR Online’s contribution exemplified how corporate purpose can power real-world impact.

Art for a Cause Meets Corporate Purpose

In 2025, NUSTAR Online went beyond sponsorship to make a direct and purpose-driven donation, turning its participation into an act of advocacy. The Company’s involvement mirrored its belief that meaningful success lies in the ability to uplift others and make a difference in the communities it serves. By aligning its CSR goals with the Red Charity Gala Ball’s Art for a Cause initiative, NUSTAR Online demonstrated how business and culture can converge to inspire generosity and social good.

Turning Glamour into Ground-Level Impact

The Art for a Cause component of the Red Charity Gala Ball has always been its beating heart, converting creative energy into tangible aid. Through the auctioning of artworks and curated experiences, proceeds are channeled toward causes that improve lives across the country. NUSTAR Online’s donation acted as a catalyst, encouraging higher participation among bidders, inspiring peer corporations to give, and ultimately raising the bar for purposeful philanthropy in the Philippines.

Purpose, Culture, and Community Synergy

From a broader perspective, NUSTAR Online’s 2025 donation reflects the Company’s commitment to purpose-driven partnerships that go beyond transactional giving. PlayTime Powers the Music Revolution at the First Fiipino Music Awards

On October 21, 2025, Manila proved its music can headline any global stage. The roar of the crowd was deafening, a sea of eager faces illuminated by the electrifying glare of spotlights dancing across the arena. The SM Mall of Asia Arena pulsed with energy as the Philippine music scene cranked the volume to its highest with the first-ever Filipino Music Awards (FMAs). At the heart of it all was PlayTime, not just talking about “revolutionizing Filipino entertainment,” but living it out loud by celebrating cultural, trailblazing artists, bold visuals, and unmistakable swagger.

Setting the Stage

From the instant guests hit the red carpet, it was obvious: this was no ordinary “song and trophy” affair. Legends like Apl.de.ap and Ely Buendia mixed with fresh faces, bold fashion choices turned heads, and the crowd buzzed with excitement.

PlayTime documented the arrival of the legendary and the rising stars onto the digital space through a livestream, and brought a glimpse of the show closer to fans and for the rest of the world to see. This is in alignment with its belief: Filipino music and artistry belong on the world stage, celebrated, and elevated.

Apl.de.Ap graced the Filipino Music Awards and later performed for the first time his unreleased single “Wind It!”.

Icons, Innovators, and Defining Victories

Here are a few of the standout winners whose victories underscore the energy of the night:

  • SB19 dominated the night, walking away with 6 awards, including Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, and Concert of the Year.
  • Cup of Joe clinched Album of the Year for Silakbo and Song of the Year for “Multo.”
  • Legacy honours went to Jose Mari Chan (Lifetime Achievement) and the posthumous Tribute Award for Pilita Corrales — gentle reminders that in the midst of thrilling new voices, the foundation of Filipino music remains honoured.

Style in Full Volume

Fashion at the FMAs wasn’t an afterthought—it was part of the story. From barong reinventions to sleek monochrome and pops of couture, the arrivals spoke of confidence and local pride, translating every artist’s musicality and individuality:

  • SB19 stepped onto the red carpet in tailored silhouettes that balanced structured modernity with subtle nods to Filipino textile heritage.
  • Cup of Joe offered artistic nonchalance: one half in sharp tailoring, the other in fluid fabrics with asymmetrical draping, capturing the band’s hybrid sound.
  • Groups like BINI brought girl-group glamour decked in bold hues, metallic accents, coordinated accessories, elements that signal OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is firmly in lifestyle territory.

Ultimately, the red carpet made it clear: for PlayTime, entertainment goes beyond sound. It’s about how you live, style, and feel every moment.

Pinoy pop boy group BGYO embodied cool with their coordinated white suits white punctuated with gold detailing. The group performed a medley featuring “All These Ladies” and “Dance With Me”. They were also nominated for the Song of the Year award.

Performances That Brought the House Down

On stage, the energy rivaled the spectacle of the red carpet. Standout moments included:

  • SB19’s explosive set mixing dynamic choreography with visuals of Philippine iconography—reminding everyone that “global ambition” and “Filipino roots” can co-exist.
  • Cup of Joe delivering “Multo” live, the haunting melody accentuated by atmospheric lighting and live strings, underlining that artistry is alive and evolving.
  • A standout moment from IV of Spades with their song “Aura”, weaving retro funk with a contemporary stage production—showing that innovation doesn’t abandon legacy.

Powering the Revolution in Filipino Entertainment

By participating in the FMAs, PlayTime was not merely a brand name on signage, but rather an active collaborator in elevating Filipino entertainment to new playing fields. Through supporting the event and leveraging its network across gaming, events, and lifestyle, PlayTime signaled that it perceives Filipino music and culture as world-class and worthy of the spotlight; that the Filipino talent deserves the same production values, the same global coverage, the same stage as any international act. And that aligns perfectly with its brand positioning of “revolutionizing Filipino entertainment.”

Photo shows: 2024 Binibining PlayTime Samantha Acosta was on ground to host the livestream of the Filipino Music Award red carpet arrivals of artists and nominees.

Why This Matters

The Filipino Music Awards mark a significant milestone for the country’s creative economy, anchoring local talent, amplifying awareness, and proving that Filipino music is not a niche but a cultural export. For PlayTime, the event reinforces its stake in the broader lifestyle and culture ecosystem, positioning the brand as a curator of elevated experiences beyond the realm of gaming and entertainment. And for audiences, it transforms passive viewership into participation—where red-carpet fashion, live performances, and brand activations merge seamlessly, blurring the line between fan and experience.

The Future Sounds Filipino

As the lights dimmed at SM Mall of Asia Arena, what remained was more than awards handed out or names recognized. What reverberated through every shriek and echo was the statement and a resolute declaration that Filipino music is on a blazing ascent that cannot be extinguished. What OPM and music entertainment are today aren’t passively cruising. The industry is sensorially immersive, daringly stylish, and boundary-pushing.

Being part of the first Filipino Music Awards is only the beginning for brands like PlayTime. More than participation, the brand echoes the culture of Filipino music and being an ally in defining and shaping it for the entire world to hear.

Here’s to the next beat. Here’s to higher stages. Here’s to PlayTime and Filipino creativity turning up the volume.
