Oriental Tin Can (OTC), a trailblazer in the Philippine metal packaging industry, proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary this year—highlighting a legacy defined by quality, innovation, and steadfast leadership.
Established in 1954 by visionary founder Chua Tee, OTC has grown into a key player in the country’s industrial landscape, serving the majority of food canneries nationwide—from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao. Today, under the guidance of Chairman and CEO Ramon L. Chua, the company continues to lead with cutting-edge technology and an enduring commitment to raising industry standards.
“We are deeply grateful for how far we’ve come—from our modest beginnings in the 1950s to becoming the market leader in metal packaging,” said Ramon L. Chua. “Our journey has always been guided by a dedication to quality, a passion for innovation, and a family legacy that drives our continued success.”
Oriental Tin Can (OTC) Reaps International Awards for their Premium Quality Products. Felimon Dexter Chua, COO, President and General Manager and Ramon L. Chua, Chairman and CEO led OTC to achieve numerous awards including the Quality Choice Prize 2022 in Barcelona, Spain and the Best Quality Leadership Award 2024 in Brussels, Belgium.
The foundation of OTC’s success lies in the principle instilled by Chua Tee: “Quality, no matter the product, is the key to success.” This timeless philosophy continues to shape the company’s operations across three generations of leadership. Now helmed by President and General Manager Felimon Dexter N. Chua, alongside Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Finance Ivee Lynn Chua, the family-led enterprise remains resilient and future-ready.
“As we commemorate this significant milestone, we remain focused on honoring our legacy while embracing new possibilities,” said Felimon Dexter N. Chua. “We’re committed to delivering premium-quality products and fostering innovation in every aspect of our business.”
Milestones and Expansion
A pivotal moment in OTC’s history occurred in 1954, when the company relocated from Caloocan City to a larger facility, boosting production capacity. This move marked the start of OTC’s rapid growth and innovation. It became the first company in the Philippines to install its own Coil Cutting Lines—underscoring its pioneering role in the sector.
OTC’s investments in advanced technologies have resulted in groundbreaking developments, such as the use of Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machinery for producing 2-piece cans. These innovations have earned the company multiple international accolades. Continuing this legacy, OTC is now poised to introduce its own Easy-Open Can Lids (EZO), reinforcing its commitment to product development and customer convenience.
“Our relentless focus on quality and innovation is what differentiates OTC from the rest,” said Engr. Ramon L. Chua. “It’s this vision that has kept us ahead of the curve—and we’re only just beginning.”

Filipino folk-pop sensation Ben&Ben recently reunited with global superstar Ed Sheeran at the OFFLIMITS Music Festival in Abu Dhabi, adding another heartwarming chapter to their growing friendship.
“We felt so lucky to meet Ed Sheeran again,” shared Ben&Ben’s Paolo Guico. “More than his once-in-a-generation talent and incredible musicality, what always stands out is how warm and genuine he is with everyone he meets—including us.”
Ed fondly recalled performing for Filipino fans and even remembered their previous meeting in Manila. “It’s such an honor to be able to exchange stories with him again,” Paolo added. “We wish Ed all the best with his new album, Play.”
The band also playfully shared a behind-the-scenes detail: “Mabango siya [Ed smelled good]!”—a lighthearted note that reflected their admiration for his effortless charm and friendly energy.
Ben&Ben shared the Etihad Park stage on April 26 with international acts including Kaiser Chiefs, OneRepublic, and of course, Ed Sheeran himself. A cheerful backstage photo captured their reunion and the joy of the moment.
Ahead of the festival, Ben&Ben posted a heartfelt cover of Ed’s latest track “Azizam,” which caught the attention of fans—and Ed himself. The British singer-songwriter shared their rendition on his Instagram Story, bringing a wave of new admirers to the Filipino band’s social media pages.
This recent meet-up follows their memorable collaboration on March 9, 2024, when Ben&Ben performed as a special guest during Sheeran’s + – = ÷ x Tour at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Manila. The band reminisced on X (formerly Twitter), summarizing the experience in a few joyful points:
We met Ed Sheeran.
We did karaoke with him.
We performed on his iconic round stage.
Our frontmen sang Maybe The Night with Ed and his amazing band.
Ed Sheeran is now entering a bold new era with the release of his latest single, “Old Phone,” which dropped on May 1, 2025. He first previewed the emotional track with a live snippet on Instagram, building excitement ahead of its release on major streaming platforms.

Filipino perfume brand Ian Darcy has officially launched its first international store at Lucky Plaza, Orchard Road, Singapore—bringing its signature oil-rich fragrances to a global audience and marking a major milestone in its decade-long journey.
The store launch was highlighted by the presence of celebrity guest Ian Veneracion, drawing hundreds of Filipinos and curious mallgoers to the event. The crowd was so enthusiastic that many mistook the actor for the brand’s namesake founder.
“We didn’t expect the turnout. People filled the mall inside and out. It was overwhelming in the best way,” said Allan Lainez, co-owner of Ian Darcy.
Founded in the Philippines by Ian Darcy Lumibao and Allan Lainez, the brand is known for its accessible, long-lasting inspired scents.
The duo started with a small capital, selling at seasonal bazaars, before growing their footprint to nearly 200 branches across the Philippines. Their expansion was fueled by partnerships with retail giants SM and Robinsons, as well as strong support on e-commerce platforms Lazada and Shopee.
“We’ve always believed in bringing high-quality fragrances to everyday people,” said Lumibao. “Use us every day—even if you’re just going to the supermarket.”
The new Singapore store offers over 70 inspired variants, including exclusive scents tailored to the region’s climate and humidity. While the perfume oils are sourced from Grasse, France—the global capital of perfumery—all other components, from alcohol to bottling, are proudly made in the Philippines.
The company operates a manufacturing plant in Lipa, Batangas, and is currently building a more modern facility to meet growing demand.
Despite being labeled as “inspired,” Ian Darcy perfumes are not copies of luxury brands, but thoughtfully blended alternatives that are legally compliant and crafted for daily wear.
Its oil-rich formula is particularly favored by those with acidic skin types, whose body chemistry often alters traditional perfumes.
Today, Ian Darcy employs nearly 700 Filipinos nationwide, providing benefits such as HMO, accident insurance, and more. The founders emphasize that their employees—and their families—are at the heart of the brand’s mission.
They also recently launched an advocacy to support Filipino education, partnering with the Philippine Normal University to provide scholarships for aspiring teachers.
“In 10 years, we hope Ian Darcy is still here—strong, sustainable and helping educate future educators,” Lumibao added.
Expansion plans are underway in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and India, further solidifying Ian Darcy’s status as a proudly Filipino brand making waves in the global fragrance industry.
For more information, visit facebook.com/iandarcyfragrance. Ian Darcy products are available at major malls nationwide, and online through Lazada and Shopee.
